It's an easy-to-play mandolin with all the hardware upgrades and the new, professional set-up. Tone, sustain, an awesome chop and spot-on intonation are all abundantly present. This is a mature, played-in mandolin with a big sound. The headstock wears the familiar "Stiver" logo and a modified "Fern" inlay, both made of fancy abalone. The wood is finished in a leathery brown sunburst and topped with nitrocellulose lacquer. The mandolin's top is made of Adirondack Red Spruce. *New "Modern-sized" EVO Frets (Jescar #43080)Īs you can see, there's plenty of fancy Sugar Maple used in the mandolin's two-piece back, sides and neck. *New Cumberland Acoustic Loar-style Adjustable Ebony Bridge *New "Old Stock" Schaller Nickel Tuners with "Custom" Black Buttons In addition to cleaning and polishing this mandolin's lacquer finish, we've made a few hardware "upgrades" and treated the mandolin to a new professional set-up. The condition and cosmetics here are about as good as it gets in a pre-owned mandolin. no previous repairs made and none needed at the present. This one-owner mandolin is in excellent condition, with no significant bumps, dings, scratches or defects of any kind. Contribution to Cafe if it sells.įor over 50 years, working from his home workshop in Polk, PA., Lou Stiver has been crafting some of the very best, small shop mandolins available anywhere and here's one of them. Cash adj either way as I am in the market for a good F-hole mandolin.Īny questions welcome. May consider all solid wood F-hole mandolin some sort of exchange. It has the original Eastman gig bag but not really the best for posting so we'd wrap it up with box/bubblewrap etc or you could collect. My experienced opinion is that will work great with the instrument in terms of volume, tone, balance and playability. However, as he has decided to sell it due to hand problems I have ordered some slightly heavier strings which should be here any day and may be the preference of someone wanting a bigger fatter sound. I put on 13, 20, 30 and 40 and tuned it to normal mandola, CA and it works well. Basically just wanted to play his mandolin tunes and get a deeper sound. I helped a good friend with it when he bought it as he didn't want too heavy strings. I've handled a couple of MDA 61s and although they had binding etc I don't remember them any better thatn this in terms of sound/playability/balance etc. Ebony bridge, Satin/matt finish and a great sound. Scale length is a friendly 16" and easy for mandolin players to handle. It is in excellent condition with no marks, fret wear or any issues at all. For sale is this Eastman MDA 315 Mandola.
